Brooke Cottage was built by David and Cecily Collett in 1959 on the site of the Grand Hotel, or not so Grand Hotel by the time the picture was taken.  Despite the advice of Frank Alexander who felt it was not a good investment, David and Cecily went ahead with the project, for which we are all very thankful.

Site visit before the work started, Aunt Ros (Ros Watson) is sitting in the family car outside the Grand Hotel

Mr Chitty bought the site but did not want the centre plot as he wanted a view up North Parade from his sitting room.  So the centre plot was purchase and the Brooke Cottage front door is sited at the front entrance to the Grand Hotel

The Grand Hotel was collapsed into the cellars and a concrete slab created on which Brooke Cottage was built.  Hanging out the swimming towels in 1959 was somewhat of a challenge.

Note The Kedge has not yet been built and neither has the garage.
